Evaluation 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My model is mixed race and belongs to the hipster tribe. She is a young female adult and she could be similarly compared to Rihanna and Beyonce in the industry. However, as most young women are portrayed in the media, my model was covered and the contrast between how Rihanna and Beyonce dress provocatively, is evident in the way my model was covered during the shoots.

My main aim was to challenge the way the music industry portray women, and by doing so, will hopefully give women in the media a different image, as oppose to sexual objects which is most commonly done, due to the belief that 'sex sells'.

I achieved this in my shoots, by dressing my artist in clothing which is not considered provocative. This goes against the common conventions of young female artists, but I still dressed her stereotypical towards her tribe.

From this video, we can see the common conception associated with Hipsters and the similarities presented through my model's clothing is present.

In this picture here, which is what I used for my feature article, I dressed my artist with common clothing and accessories commonly associated with the hipster tribe.

What can be seen here are creepers (footwear), knee-high socks, tights (which again enforces my target in which she is not being portrayed provocatively , denim shorts, a shirt bought in Topman, vintage circular glasses, and a fur coat on the far right. The guitar shown is also a common instrument played within the hipster tribe and the cigarette being presented enforces the hipster's rebellious nature.

Here are some examples of hipster females. I used their dress code as a guideline when taking into consideration, on how I'd achieve my representation of the hipster tribe.

The hipster tribe are commonly smokers and this is due to their contrary rebellious nature.

Overall, though I am challenging the conventions of the way a young mixed race female is being presented in the industry, I am still developing the stereotypical representation of her within the hipster subculture.
